ABOUT ME
My name is Madeline Trait, and I am the creator behind Gilliflower which emerged from my passion for art, design and gardening. I learned about plants by taking up gardening at a young age and trying to redesign my mother’s back yard through much trial and error. Art and design have always been part of my life and the medium of flowers are my latest muse. In 2007 my friend asked me to create the flowers for her wedding, I was honored and jumped at the opportunity. I have since done many more events and am continually experimenting
BACKGROUND
I grew up in Southern California where I excelled in art winning several city wide competitions as a child. I joined the Art’s Honor Society in high school, and then received my degree in Architecture at Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo. Through my year long travels in Italy and Eastern Europe I found immediate inspiration in their architecture, art and fashion. This is where I began my creative quest. I started in architecture then went to interior design and now currently reside in event design. I derive a different satisfaction from each venture however event design is where all my abilities and passions collide.
STYLE
I have always had a propensity for art and design. With the knowledge that I have acquired through architecture and interior design I am equipped with the ability to achieve your vision. My aesthetic is one of eclectic experimentation where I go from traditional, contemporary to a mix of the two. I believe in versatility and working with my clients to not only make their vision come to life but breath even more life into it.
GREEN COMMITMENT
Having a green thumb, it only makes sense that I am dedicated to the environment and making Gilliflower a green company. Currently I am working on my green certification. In the mean time, I use recycled materials; I compost, recycle, and try to conserve and reuse water where I can. I source organic certified flower and local growers, even if it may not be specifically requested by the client. I believe in being respectful of our environment and working with what grows in our region
I am also a member of Locally Grown Weddings, the place where you can find all your green wedding vendors who work together seamlessly from one source.
